For this FAQ i have used [] to indicate description of an illustration. ======================================================================== | Game Features | ================= - Action puzzler - 1-4 players with link cable - Single and Multicart link play - Automatic progression save - Quick save ======================================================================== | Overview | ============ This game has a much more involved storyline than the previous Mr Driller games on Gameboy, in fact, more than most puzzlers. The in-game graphics are simplistic and colorful, while the cutscenes are plenty and lush. Very impressive full vocal intro song "Progress! Driller!" sung by voice actor Ms. Mitsuko. ======================================================================== | Gameplay | ============ - Drill Drill Drill The main game-play is drilling puzzle. The general idea is to drill your way through colorful blocks down to the bottom. As you drill, the blocks above you become dislodged and fall down, watch out, or you will be crushed and lose a life. Blocks falling down onto blocks of the same color forming a cluster of four or more will disappear. - Save up miles and get items Save up Driller Miles by digging, the more you dig the more miles you get. Whenever you dig 1m you get one unit that you can use to buy items in the shops. Miles are collected and saved in all playing modes. Dig a lot and save up heaps of miles to buy great items. You can check the number of miles you got in Records and at the Mission Driller shop. - Raise a mysterious Pacteria creature In the Wonerful Pacteria Mode you breed a lovely and wonderful creature called Pacteria. It changes color and appearance depening on what food you give it, and depending on how you treat it its moods will change. While it grows up you collect Pakute Breeding Cards which has tips on raising Pacteria and pictures of the more than 100 different kinds of Pacteria. Capturing the ruins of Dridorado you will get food and items to make the Pacteria develop. ======================================================================== | Story | ========= Where did the debris of the blocks that Mr Driller and others have broken really disappear to? So far it has been a great mystery. However, Dr Zett and his group recently discovered some creatures called Pacteria who's favourite food are blocks. Their bodies are only 3cm around and their disguising coloring has kept them hidden from the eyes of people as they ate the blocks. The ecology of the pacteria are still shrouded in mystery. The ruins of Dridorado suddenly appeared from the depths of the earth. The ruins are filled with blocks, but it seems the key to solve the mystery of Pacteria is hidden inside. To get inside these ruins Susumu got a new medieval figher suit! Susumu takes this challenge under the name Knight Susumu Hori, wearing his armour Drikyariba and his sword is Driama. ======================================================================== | Characters | ============== - Pacteria Pacteria is a mysterious creature that changes form and color. Try to meet all the pacteria to collect breeding cards. There are many different kinds of pacteria. Dr. Zett's resarch has shown that giving it different combinations of Mu Rocket Stones will change the pacteria's form. - Each game character got slightly different abilities - Susumu Hori & Knight Susumu Hori [pink suit and blue pants] Our hero Basic type, suitable for the average player. In order to get into the ruins of Dridorado Knight Susumy is equipped with Driama and Drikyariba. - Taizou Hori [white and red suit and blue gloves] Susumu's father Fast, suitable for skilled players. His drilling speed is quick but his air also decreases quickly. He is Susumu's father and a global hero who resolved the Gudaku incident in 1982, and the Nankoku island plan the next year. - Horinga-Z [grey robot] A robot drill Good for beginners. It can survive being crushed by a block once. It's a prototype build of a robot Dr Zett developed for drilling tunnels underground. - Puchi [white and brown dog] Susumu's dog Slow, good for beginners. He's slow but can jump up two steps of blocks at once. Susumu found him when he was a stray and now they live together. He's a gifted talking dog who also does housekeeping. - Ataru Hori [brown cloak, red scarf and a rabbit creature] A relative of Susumu Good for skilled players. His air runs out quickly but his horizontal movement is fast. - Anna Hottenmeyer [white suit, big blue glasses, orange drill] Susumu's girl rival Good for the average player. Moves fast and air runs out pretty fast too. She's a girl born in Germany and an elite driller and a rival who competes with Susumu about drilling skills. - Professor Horiguchi Not a game character but he appears in the cutscenes. Professor Horiguchi is excavating the ruins of Dridorado. He is also one of the members of the Drida council. - Doctor Zett Also not a game character. Is doing research on the mysterious Pacteria creatues. ======================================================================== | Items | ========= - Blocks Colored, yellow, green, pink (red), blue - These are the main blocks you drill your way through. If four blocks get together they disappear. X Blocks (brown) - Can be drilled through with several hacks, and usually a loss of air. Sticks together the same way as normal colored blocks. Beige rocks - These you can drill through but they don't stick together. They appear both as single blocks and bigger blocks the size of four blocks. Metal blocks - Indesctructible, often immobile. Star blocks - Dissipates slowly as they come into view creating major instability - Air Capsules Each capsule holds 20% of air. You also get bonus points for them. ======================================================================== | Playing Modes | ================= - Wonderful Pacteria Search your way down the mysesterious ruins of Dridorado. Collect items to make your Pacteria crature grow. Collect Pacteria cards as it grows. The drill has been replaced by the sword Driama. The mission is to get to the bottom before you run out of air. You only have one life, but when you get crushed you only lose 20% air. Watch out for the brown blocks, every time you slash at them you lose one air unit. It takes 5 slashes to make them disappear completely. Drop into the shop to buy items, or the way home airline to take a shortcut home. Colored, brown and beige blocks appear among a whole slew of bonus items. - Mission Driller Save countries from from the dastardly blocks. From Japan to France, the jungles of the Amazon and even the entire Universe in the endless space mode, Mr Driller and friends has to go everywhere with their trusty drillers. You get three lives and every time you run out of air or get crushed you lose one of them. Collect a lot of air capsules and earn extra lives. Free the sleeping blue people creatures in the blocks for extra points. In this mode colored, brown and beige blocks appear. - Driller Grand Pri Compete against the other driller characters in this race mode. Speed is everything. If you get crushed or die by running out of air, all you lose is the time it takes to get resurrected. Your air will be reset to 100% every time. In some situations its actually faster to die of asphyxiation than to run a long way for more air. This mode is great for honing your skills at finding the shortest fastest way. If you get stuck or slowed down, look at the other players and follow their lead. They usually take a few different but clever paths down among the blocks. The main thing to remember is that it takes longer time to drill away a block than to run or fall, so try to take out long vertical blocks and fall down the space where they were. All kinds of blocks appear in this mode. ======================================================================== | Walkthrough/Guide | ===================== - Wonderful Pacteria Pacteria Room Feed it items They come falling like powder from the top Some items changes the appearance of the pacteria, awarding you a new card Tomato - Red Round Heart - ? Nasu - Blue Lemon - Yellow? Pimento/Pepper - Green When you select the item icon the pacteria gets happy and starts to bounce, but if you don't give it anything it will be sad again soon. It doesn't seem to like being petted much. Sometimes it likes when you call it. Leaving it can break its heart It doesn't like when you do the same thing over and over. Try to vary the actions. Try not to feed it a color it has already been, or you won't get a new card. Wait until it changes shape before giving it that color food again. Escape - Mission Driller The blocks fall pretty slowly so it's fairly easy to run in under a shaking block thats about to fall and run out again Japan The playing field is narrow making it a lot easier to get an overview of what's going on. - Driller Grand Pri It is highly recommended that you use one of the fast characters for this mode, either Taizou Hori or Ataru Hori. Hori Hori GP Japan 200m Normal mix of colored blocks and brown blocks India 200m Beige blocks start to take over France 200m Only big beige blocks and brown blocks, watch out for unstable blocks above, time the clearing right. When you clear this level you win the Driller Award and the next level opens Zaku Zaku GP America 200m Big silver and brown block clusters Egypt 200m Silver block labyrinth, watch the other players and try to find the best way through China 300m Pretty normal mix, two color normal blocks, huge normal and brown blocks mixed, watch out for brown blocks falling on your from outside screen view. When you clear this level you win the pickaxe award and the next level opens Dori Dori GP Amazon 200m Run upstairs and downstairs in big silver block steps. Chose carefully where to get your extra air. North Pole 300m Pretty normal mix with some star blocks South Pole 300m Normal mix - Driller Net The Mr Driller website is located at http://www.mrdriller.net.
